President Trump signed an executive order to establish the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) to maintain and advance the United States' leadership in transformative technologies like artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and biotechnology. The Council aims to combat ideological biases that undermine scientific progress, restore public trust, and bolster innovation.
Purpose: Strengthen U.S. dominance in technology and innovation to address national security and global competitiveness challenges.
Composition: PCAST will include up to 24 members, combining government officials and distinguished non-federal experts from diverse fields. It will be co-chaired by the Assistant to the President for Science and Technology and the Special Advisor for AI & Crypto.
Functions: Advise the President on science, technology, and innovation policy. Provide insights on issues affecting the economy, workforce, and security. Act as advisory bodies for high-performance computing, nanotechnology, and innovation policies.
Collaborate with stakeholders across academia, industry, and government.
Support: The Department of Energy will provide funding and technical assistance. Members will serve without pay but may receive travel expense reimbursements.
